The Melting Point offers a residency program which provides support for artists to practice or discover glassmaking, create new work, and have their pieces displayed and/or sold at The Melting Point.
This program enriches the experience of the artists they serve as well as people who visit The Melting Point in Sedona, AZ.
The goal of The Melting Point is to facilitate a dialogue between a unique mix of artists and the community. We attempt to bring in skilled and engaging residents who show great promise in the craft. As a reflection of our commitment, we take great care in the selection process. The application process consists of an online review followed by a panel meeting among The Melting Point Staff and guest jurors. The panel focuses on the quality of the applicant’s work as well as responses to the statements of process, interest, and intent.
Your Responsibility as the Artist
The Melting Point is a situation unlike many nonprofit fellowship programs in that we lack funding by way of federal grants to offset the costs of operation. As a result, we request the artist to leave work behind up to but not to exceed the retail amount of $4500. In return, housing to the artist is provided at no additional charge as well as up to $450 for travel-related expenses. The residency covers 5 8-hour days in the hotshop with two fully trained assistants.
Artist will also be requested to conduct one slideshow presentation open to the community and/ or teach a 1-2 day workshop in glasswork.
